Tucson-Tombstone Trip

On this southwestern adventure, my out of state cousin and I headed down to Tucson and Tombstone. Our first stop was to the San Xavier del bac Mission in Tucson. Here we met up with Brother David, who gave us an amazing behind the scenes tour of the mission. After learning about many of the hidden secrets of the mission, we headed down to the Titan II Missile Museum. Here we stepped back in time as we went on a 1 hour guided tour of the complex. This is a truly amazing way to see what life during the Cold War was like. After turning the key in a simulated missile launch, my cousin and I finished to the tour. After stopping in the gift shop on our way out, we took the scenic route (Box Canyon Rd./ Highway 62) out of Green Valley. It’s a pretty easy dirt road (we did it in a minivan, so your fine) that takes you to the 83. From here we turned right and later left onto highway 82. After this, you follow it east and then turn right onto the 80 to get to Tombstone. Once in Tombstone, we stopped for lunch and then went to the Tombstone Historic Courthouse, which encompasses much of Tombstones history. After this we toured around a bit more including the Good Enough Mine Tour. This was truly an awesome experience. It is ran by the Tombstone Consolidated Mining Company. We were led over 2000’ down into the heart of the Good Enough Silver mine, one of the two original claims made by Ed Schieffelin. Deep in the mine we saw artifacts, shafts, and a lot more. We were the only two on the tour so it made it kind of nice to listen to our guide. After this we headed back to Tucson where we retired for the night. However, you might want to stay the night in Tombstone that way you can tour around it more. The next day, we hit mass at the mission and then headed back into town. Overall this trip was really neat showing us history from the 1700’s at the mission, 1800’s in Tombstone, and the Cold War at the Titan II Missile Museum.
