Take a ride through the beautiful area of Sedona and much more on this short, but fun trip. Explore an old cabin, a natural bridge, and even an arch if you are feeling ambitious enough! Please note that you do need to purchase a Red Rock Pass if you stop along the way, which inevitably you will. Click here for information on where to get Red Rock Passes.
To get to the beginning of the trail, head west on the U.S. 89-A, and then turn right onto Dry Creek Road (just 2 miles west of the airport). Stay on Dry Creek Rd. ignoring side roads until you get to Vultee Arch Trail, off right at 2 miles. Parking is somewhat limited so anywhere you find is fine as long as you are not blocking a road, trail, or residential drive. There is a small spot off immediately right on the trail that should work.
Start riding northeast on the trail as it begins its journey through scenic Red Rock country. Slow down for a sharp turn at 0.75 miles. Turnoff at right at 1.3 miles leads to Devils Bridge, very much worth the hike if you have time. To do this, turn right onto the lesser trail and then drive up to the parking area, then hike up to the bridge. Turn hard right and then left at 2.25 miles. Just after this, at 2.3 miles, turn left to get to Van Deren Cabin. This short road is the roughest part of the trip because it contains small rock ledges, narrower trail and varying conditions in Dry Creek. When you get to Dry Creek at about 2.5 miles, make sure to turn left, not go straight to get to the cabin. Cabin is at 2.6 miles. Take some time to explore this neat area and be sure to leave things the way you found them, and despite the name, Dry Creek is susceptible to flash floods so use caution in rain. This old homestead was built by Bill Fredericks in 1924. When you are done at Van Deren Cabin, head back to Dry Creek Rd. Turn left if you want to continue onto Vultee Arch or if not, head back to the start of the trail. Vultee Arch is about 2 miles up the trail (one way) and is a great addition if you have the time. It is sort of a long trail, so plan accordingly!
This trail is pretty short, but very scenic. It can be completed in about 2-4 hours, depending on the amount of time you explore, stop, or hike. The majority of the trail is easy, but gets harder when you have to cross Dry Creek. Use caution but have fun on this great trip!
